Connect IMAP Email
Connect any email provider to Velum using standard IMAP settings.
Setup steps
Find your email provider's IMAP settings
Check the table below for common providers, or look up your provider's IMAP server address, port, and encryption type in their help documentation.
Create an app password (if required)
Many providers require an app-specific password instead of your regular password when connecting via IMAP. This is especially common with Outlook, Yahoo, and iCloud. Check your provider's security settings to generate one.
Sign in to Velum
Log in to your Velum account and navigate to Settings → Email.
"Add IMAP Account"
Click the "Add IMAP Account" button in your email settings. You'll see a form asking for your connection details.
Enter your connection details
Fill in the IMAP server address, port number, your email username (usually your full email address), and your password or app password. Select the correct encryption type (SSL/TLS is recommended).
Common provider settings
| Provider | IMAP Server | Port | Encryption |
|---|---|---|---|
| Outlook / Hotmail | outlook.office365.com | 993 | SSL/TLS |
| Yahoo Mail | imap.mail.yahoo.com | 993 | SSL/TLS |
| iCloud Mail | imap.mail.me.com | 993 | SSL/TLS |
| AOL Mail | imap.aol.com | 993 | SSL/TLS |
| Fastmail | imap.fastmail.com | 993 | SSL/TLS |
| ProtonMail (Bridge) | 127.0.0.1 | 1143 | STARTTLS |
About app passwords
If your email provider uses two-factor authentication, you'll need to generate an app-specific password. Here's where to find it:
- Outlook: Microsoft Account → Security → App passwords
- Yahoo: Account Info → Security → Generate app password
- iCloud: Apple ID → Sign-In and Security → App-Specific Passwords
Your credentials are secure
Your IMAP credentials are encrypted at rest using AES-256 encryption. They are only used to sync your email and are never shared with third parties. IMAP accounts sync every 5 minutes.
